Dribble Knockout
Quick-feet warm-up in a shared grid - keep your ball, knock others out.
Setup
- 20x20 yard grid for up to 16 players
- One ball each
- All players inside the grid at the same time
How to Play
- Every player dribbles their ball inside the grid
- Try to kick other players' balls out while keeping control of your own
- If your ball leaves the grid, do 5 toe-taps on the line, then rejoin
Rules
- Last player with their ball inside wins the round
- Progress: shrink the grid each round to increase pressure
1
Head up - scan for space and danger at the same time2
Use your body to shield the ball when under pressure3
Small, quick touches keep the ball close when it's tight2
Passing Squares
Combination passing in groups of four - focused on weight, timing and movement.
Setup
- Four cones in a 10x10 yard square, one player on each cone
- Groups of 4, one ball per group
- Run two or three squares side by side
How to Play
- Pass to an adjacent cone and follow your pass, running to replace that player
- Receiving player must take a touch to set and then pass on quickly
- Keep the ball moving - aim for fewer than 2 touches each
Progressions
- Progress 1: one-touch only - no controlling touch allowed
- Progress 2: add a central defender who presses the ball - the square must keep possession
1
Show for the ball on an angle - don't stand still behind a cone2
Pass to the player's front foot so they can play forward quickly3
Passer: move after the ball, not before - time your run to the pass3
4v4 End Zone Game
Small-sided game with end zones - reward quick transition and combination play.
Setup
- 30x20 yard pitch with a 5-yard end zone at each end
- 4v4 plus goalkeepers optional
- Two teams, one ball
How to Play
- Score by dribbling the ball under control into the opponent's end zone
- No goalkeepers - defending team tracks back to stop the dribble
- Ball goes dead if dribbled out of bounds - restart with a kick-in
Key Focus
- Reward: bonus point if the scoring player received a through-ball from a teammate
- Key focus: look for the early pass before the end zone, not just solo dribbles
1
Create a two-v-one before entering the end zone rather than going alone2
Defenders: press the ball together, don't spread out3
When you win the ball, switch direction quickly - transition is the key moment4
Free Play
Open game - let the players express themselves.
Setup
- Full-width pitch or whatever space is available
- Even teams, standard goals or cones
- Coach stands back from the game
How to Play
- Standard football rules, no restrictions
- Players self-organise and make their own decisions
Coach role: Step away and observe. No instructions, no stoppages. Let what you've coached show up naturally.

Stretch & Review
Light stretches followed by a three-question team review.
Stretches
- Players in a circle or seated on the ground
- Quad stretch, hamstring stretch, shoulder rolls - 30 seconds each
Q1. What's one moment where someone's pass created a chance today?
Q2. When did we move the ball quickly and it worked - what made it work?
Q3. One thing each of you will practise before next session?
